I have a Harvey hammer mill that I run with the 1000rpm pto shaft on my 706. It seems the hammer mill is not turning fast enough as it will clog up occasionally. Does any one know how fast the hammer mill should turn? It was originally driven with a belt drive, was 3000 feet per minute standard for a belt? I would appreciate any help. Thanks, Ed

Belt drive hammer mills are cheap and most have gone to scrap. For 100 I would sell A Letz burr mill with PTO drive and an auger to carry the groubd feed away to a wagon or a bin. It is factory made with two 15 inch tires. It is rusty because previous owner let it set out.

Pulley size will regulate the cylinder speed and you want to run your tractor at full throttle for power. depending on how the hammermill is oriented to the tractor, for right rotation, a twist in the belt will prevent slapping. And as already stated each belt has its own personality.

The picker would wear a special corn hook that would help pick clean and picking clean was preferred. As for shelling the corn, husks made no difference to mechanical shellers as they shelled the corn from the cob and separated corn from cobs and husks. Hand shellers required clean corn. As for grinding, hammer mills would grind cobs and husks.
