The belts are metric so you need to do the conversion. Most counter guys in parts stores are used to just looking the make and model of car so it may be a little difficult to get the belt you need. Usually though, the length of the belt is part of the manufacturer's part number, but may not be part of the sku number in the parts store nomenclature.

Pull the pin from the flat belt and use segmented link Vee belt on the new split sheeve. I drilled and taped the holes in the flat belt pulley easily enough meat there for threading. You can drill the holes 2 per each half undersize at first to mark/transfer for the taped holes in the FB sheeve.

Re: 1938 9" South Bend Lathe motor replacement question. You probably need a V belt pulley on the motor and on the driven shaft. I'm guessing it was originally driven off of a line shaft, hence the flat belt drive. You would still use a flat belt on the step pulleys. I assume this is driven from the top and not from underneath.

I couldn't tell you how old the belt was since I bought the machine second (or third) hand. I do know that somebody had been in the machine previously. Not sure if it was to replace the belt or to work on the draw bar. My belt snapped when I was taking a pretty heavy face cut. Their initial tension settings seemed loose after I fired it up.
